Therapy Dogs: 7-Week Course

Product Description
Prerequisite: Graduation from Dog Manners or similar program and permission of Instructor, which may be granted during the first class when dog is evaluated. This is not a basic obedience class. Sit, down, stay, and come should be reliably performed by your dog on cue.
This fun 7-week class will help prepare you and your dog to become a therapy dog team. Therapy dogs bring warmth and comfort to people in need, and often a smile or two. In addition to dog obedience, a therapy dog needs to learn specialized skills, such as how to be comfortable around wheelchairs, canes, and walkers and how to navigate carefully around IV poles and drips. Therapy dogs must be gentle, calm and comforting around many different types of people. You will work with your dog to accept handling from strangers and proximity to hospital equipment, and you’ll solidify commands such as "Leave it" and "Go say Hi."
If your dog is not aggressive or fearful and you think he or she may have what it takes to be a therapy dog, come to the first class session, which is free. Although the first class is free, advance registration is required so we know how many dog/handler teams will be attending.
If the instructor feels your dog has the right temperament for a therapy dog, you can register and pay for the class that starts the following week and continues for a total of six 1-hour sessions, one per week costing $120). Register and pay in person at the facility immediately following the free session.
Please complete our two forms by clicking each link below and bring to your first class along with your dog's vaccination record. If you pay in person, bring the forms with you when you pay, at least 24 hours in advance of the class start date.
