Obedience Classes

Competition Obedience
Our Obedience Classes are for those people interested in competing in this sport. If you are seeking a class that will teach your dog basic commands, how to walk on a leash, and come when called, please enroll in our Dog Manners class, which can be found by clicking on the link to the left, "Dog Manners and Canine Good Citizen."

Competition Obedience is a dog sport in which owners work with their dogs as a highly tuned team. Merely sitting, lying down, or walking on a leash are not enough; the dog must perform in a carefully defined manner. For example, a dog must come directly to the owner when called, not sniff or veer off to one side. Advanced classes prove the owner’s ability to train the dog to follow more difficult commands: fetching a dumbbell, jumping an obstacle, and finding items touched by the owner. Training for obedience competitions builds on basic obedience training. Praiseworthy Pups offers the opportunity for people interested in competing in Obedience the opportunity to practice with their dog under simulated trial conditions. See our Schedule for scheduled practice sessions.
